Waterford Kettering (4/17) - The Mavs tame the Captains

Milford played three games during the week (win, loss, tie). On Friday night in Waterford, the Lady Mavs got back their stride, as they beat the Captains 2-1.

After several organized attacks, Milford finally got on the board at the 20 minute mark, as sophomore Sam Sturgeon broke up the play at midfield, and moved the ball to the sideline to junior Ryan Winn. Winn took the ball down deep into the Captain end, and sent the ball back to the box to junior co-captain Michele Dant, who headed the ball into the near corner past the diving keeper.

Four minutes later, Sturgeon took the free kick from twenty yards out, and placed it over the defensive wall, just under the crossbar, and out of the reach of the goalkeeper for a 2-0 lead. Waterford got one back, as Lisa Zaffina scored with 3 minutes left in the half.

In the second half, Milford had several chances and shots on goal, but couldn’t score. Both defenses stiffened up. Milford’s defense broke up all of the Waterford attacks, led by co-captain Tess Zasuwa, Shannon Dunn, Max Howard, Alyssa Adams, Katie Mulville and Cara Johnson. Senior goalkeeper Angie Pasciolla had to be sharp to stop some good shots by Kettering, with the game ending 2-1.

Milford’s record is 3-3-1, and Waterford dropped to 1-4-1.

Milford's JV won 1-0, with junior Chelsea Pearsall scoring for the Mavs.

Holly (4/16) – Tough battle ends in a tie

Milford’s heavy schedule showed it’s affects on the girls, as they had a difficult time getting their game back on track against Holly, ending in a 2-2 tie.

The Lady Mavs scored first in the first 10 minutes as junior co-captain Michele Dant took a pass from junior attacker Ryan Winn, and fired past the Bronco goalkeeper Heather Leach.

Holly evened the score at the 15 minute mark with a good shot by senior Samantha Anetrini, with the half ending at 1-1.

The Mav’s jumped back into the lead early in the second half, when Winn took a pass from sophomore midfielder Samantha Sturgeon, and knocked it past the Holly keeper.

Holly quickly tied the score with another goal by Anetrini. Defenses tightened up by both sides, with the game ending 2-2.

Milford's JV also tied 1-1, with junior Kara Johnson scoring.

Hartland (4/14) – Difficult night on the pitch

A Cold and wet night made the game against Hartland difficult on the Hartland grass field, with the undefeated Eagles getting the best of the Mavs, 4-1. Milford’s lone goal was scored by freshman Erin Winn, her second goal of the season. Milford's JV lost 5-0.
